TONY RYAN MINI WORKSHOP 2nd June 2010

    Key Points

-How do we promote thinking ALL the time not just small blocks of teaching.

-Start with the big picture stuff....break thinking down. What does it mean to us? Start using the language of thinking and introduce a coding system that can be used as a reflective tool for teachers.

-What kind of school do we want to be? A PARTS school where teachers embed thinking into our current daily planning or
a BIG PICTURE school that is focussed on concepts that promote deeper understanding and drives the learners and learning!

-Self talk needs to be taught. Write the words "I'm smart" on the board. Ask the students to say it in their head, now louder, tap your fingers when you say the words in your head. This activity promotes quality thinking.
